What is a Certified Commercial Interior Designer stamp on permit plans all about? Per the California Business and Professions Code, Section 5800 – 5812., Certified Interior Designers are allowed to submit non-structural/non-seismic plans with their stamp affixed. “Interior design” means the design of interior spaces as part of an interior alteration or interior construction project within a proposed or existing building or structure, including, but not limited to: interior space planning; accessibility; design and alterations of existing non-structural partition walls; design and alteration of pre-engineered systems; non-structural reflected ceiling/lighting; electrical/data layout plans; plumbing fixture layout plans; required occupancy calculations per each occupancy group; required horizontal exiting and path of egress diagram; selection of finishes, furnishings, fixtures, and equipment; and fabrication of nonstructural elements within and surrounding interior spaces of buildings that do not substantially affect the structural systems of a building.
